What is tooth abrasion?
Tooth abrasion is the loss of tooth structure due to abnormal mechanical wear. Where there is a layer of teeth that is missing and eroded enamel, or sometimes a deeper layer of tooth enamel, namely dentin. Tooth abrasion can be said to be the result of excessive and continuous friction on the teeth.

Cause of tooth abrasion
  1. Brushing your teeth too hard and the wrong way.
  2. Clasps (wires) on dentures that put too much pressure on the teeth.
  3. Bruxism (grinding of teeth).
  4. The habit of biting the smoking pipe between the upper and lower front teeth.

Symptoms of tooth abrasion
  • Teeth hurt and more sensitive
  • Tooth shape looks eroded

Prevents tooth abrasion
  1. Do not brush your teeth too hard and apply pressure. Use light pressure and precise brushing motions.
  2. Use a toothbrush with soft to medium bristles, with a small toothbrush head.
  3. Be careful when brushing the canines and small teeth, because these two teeth are in the corners of the mouth. you usually accidentally over-clean this area, which can cause tooth abrasion.
  4. Avoid toothpaste that contains lots of abrasive ingredients, such as whitening toothpaste.
  5. Avoid using toothpicks, preferably using dental floss.
